Excursions – Annual Report (2016)
Excursions had a wonderful year with many great trips planned. In the fall there was a trip planned to 3 gardens in New Jersey, Greenwood Garden, Janet Mavec’s garden Bird Haven (Susan Schiefflin’s cousin) and Andy Filippone’s garden. Unfortunately, due to a last minute drop off we had to postpone the trip. The next trip in October was to the North End of Central Park which was absolutely amazing and a must see. We ended the day with lunch at Island restaurant. The last trip we planned for the fall was to Untermyer Garden in Yonkers which do to the weather had to be postponed.
In March we organized a wonderful excursion to the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. It was very well attended and an absolutely gorger display of some of the rainiest Orchid in the world. We had a box lunch together in the cafe which was delicious. The next Spring trip was a tri-club event going back to the New York Botanical garden for their Impressionist show which was a special show to celebrate their anniversary. The show really brought home the fact that nature was truly the inspiration and palette for the most famous impressionist painters. We had a wonderful lunch at the Stone Mill which is located on a beautiful stream on the NYBG property.
Our last trip we had planned to visit the Back 40 Farm in Washington, CT. Do to conflict in dates we have postponed it for the fall of 2016. It was a very active year seeing very different displays of horticulture and art. Looking forward to a great year in 2016/17.
